To the Coach's that made me the Coach I am today

     Dear coaches,

My words cannot describe all the inspiration you have given me, both

in the sports arena and off. You were incredible role models. You

held my team and me to the highest standards and now I carry that

mentality forward with the girls I mentor. Looking back, I am beyond

grateful to realize how much of an impact you all had on me.

You all have taught me so much on the court but also helped me

learn about myself, such as what areas I excel at, and what areas I

need extra help with. The moments you taught me to be strong and use

my head have helped me in many situations. You have shown me how to

carry myself through situations I could have acted very immaturely

in. But most of all, you have taught me to trust and believe in

myself. You all pushed me to better my skills. Either in basketball,

volleyball or horse-back riding. Every one of you showed me that I

can push myself to achieve my fullest potential, and be successful.

If we are all being honest here, I was not the easiest athlete

to coach. I thank you all for the patience you put into me. Even

though I was a high-strong, ball of energy athlete, you all saw

potential in me. When I made mistakes, you knew to be firm with me

and demanded me to push myself and practice even harder. This has

helped me mentally, and to expect nothing less than I know I can

achieve for myself.

Playing a sport has given me so many opportunities working with

other athletes as well as the younger generation. All of the drills,

late practices, upset speeches after a hard loss and all of the

positive things you told me and my teams, earned my respect. I have

now developed and molded into a leader working with younger kids.

Getting their respect is sometimes harder than I thought. Sometimes,

I miss being on the court getting yelled at and told, "Good job! Do

it again Katie."

Fast forward some years, I am now in your shoes starting off as

a coach. I sure do not know as much as you do, but you have to start

somewhere! I am lucky to have some of you now as my peers for

coaching, in volleyball and basketball. I see where you got

frustrated when we didn't perform well at a tournament or regular

games. I specifically remember coming back off of Christmas break

and not being able to run the drill at game speed. I'm sure there

are many more scenarios I can't think of. I have loved being able to

take the knowledge you guys have given me and being able to apply it

to coaching. Watching the girls grow as a student athlete has been

an honor to be a part of.

Thank you all again for making a huge impact on my life. I might h

ave gone down the wrong path without sport, school or having you as

role-models.  You are the reason I am the proud coach I am today.

You all have been truly special to me through out my life. I hope to

be as great at coaching as you all were and to have an equally

positive influence on the lives of the next generation.

XOXO😊
